Customer FeedbackIn 2007, IKEA China launched the Supplier Quality Day event in Shanghai for our key suppliers in China. Our theme for this event was “Top Quality – The Way Forward” and our purpose was to motivate and encourage our suppliers to deliver superior quality products for our consumers. We invited Prof. Leonard Sandholm & Dr. BH Chong from Berkeley-Sandholm Institute of Performance Excellence, Sweden, to conduct a Quality Improvement Workshop during this Supplier Day event. It was from this event that IKEA China decided to engage Dr. Chong to conduct a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) training program for our key suppliers throughout China. The customized CQI Supplier training included a Quality Audit at the suppliers’ factories, Six Sigma Green Belt and Total Quality Management (TQM) training courses over a period of 6 months. At the completion of training, each company was requested to present 3 CQI projects to IKEA management to share their quality improvement and cost reduction achievements. We were very impressed that these suppliers reported an annual cost savings of 300 million RMB as a result of the CQI projects. In 2010, we continue to integrate this CQI initiative into IKEA Supplier Development Process (SDP) & ISQS Audit System and we strongly believe that the SDP process will benefit both our suppliers and IKEA in terms of Product Quality improvement and Profitablity enhancement.
